The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Frank Nweke Jr. on Friday evening announced his withdrawal from the race, saying he has collapsed his structures in support of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Dr Peter Mbah ahead of tomorrow’s gubernatorial election.

The former Minister of Information who made this known at the end of a closed-door meeting of the Nkanu Elders Forum (NCF) held at the Igwe Odezuluigbo Palace, Nike, declaring that he was collapsing his structure based on Mbah’s impeccable track record of achievement both in the private and public sectors and his desire to transform Enugu State beyond recognition.

The former APGA candidate stated that Enugu State was in dire need of a technocrat like Mbah to deploy his private sector experience and clout to exponentially grow the economy of the state from $4.4b to $30b.

Nweke urged the Enugu electorate to look beyond clannish or party sentiments and key into the project for the actualization of the Enugu State of the people’s dream.

“I am today withdrawing from the Enugu governorship race in support of my brother, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of the PDP.

“This is borne out of my desire to ensure that the leadership of our beloved Enugu State from May 29, 2023 is entrusted into the right hands of a technocrat and not the a career politician who has done nothing else except moving from one government office to another.

“It is not the time to play politics with the future of our children. It is not also the time to make empty promises. I have carefully studied Mbah’s manifesto and I am convinced that his ideas, though imaginative and ambitious, are attainable within the specified timelines. Peter is really far above his peers. I, therefore wholeheartedly implore all my supporters to rally round Mbah and give him the maximum support he deserves. I also seize this opportunity to wish him a most memorable birthday, Nweke said.
