BREAKING: Husband of assaulted journalist seeks financial assistance as doctors say she be flown abroad

By Emeka Awuzie

As the Enugu female journalist, Mrs Ilodi, recently assaulted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Enugu State, Engr. Uchenna Nnaji, continues to rip in severe pain and battle for her life, her husband, Engr. Kenneth Ilodi, has come out to appeal for financial assistance of the well meaning Nigerians as doctors treating her wife in an undisclosed hospital, suggest that the lady be flown abroad in order to survive the grave wounds inflicted on her by Nnaji and his men.

Engr Ilodi whose sorrow and tears remain uncontrollably revealed that the incident his wife suffered has left her with only one eye and other life threatening injuries which have made the doctors to recommend a hospital in New Delhi, India for urgent multiple surgeries.

He further stated that his wife was no longer working with the Enugu State Broadcasting Service (ESBS) as reported earlier but is currently working in a private radio station, even as he disclosed that the decision to move his wife away from the ESUT Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Enugu, was for security reasons.

“We decided to turn her out of the hospital to a private hospital for security reasons. Somebody suggested that they might come for her life if we should allow her stay in Parklane. Some of the specialists had to assist us but the money we’ve spent since yesterday is becoming unbearable. They’ve carried out surgery yesterday but she is still in coma. Doctors said she needs multiple surgeries abroad because of the delicate parts of her body where they inflicted injuries,” Ilodi said.

The civil engineer further cried to Nigerians to remember his wife in prayer as he has nothing left in the world aside her and her three little children who were still in nursery and pre-nursery schools.

“Who is going to take care of these little children. We started this journey when I had nothing. She means the whole to me. She stood by me at a very trying time in my life. My wife cannot go like that. Nigerians should not let her die.

“The doctors said she should as a matter of urgency be flown to New Delhi India for surgeries and also to know if anything could be done to save the remaining eye. The doctors said it will require the expert of surgeons and ENT specialists in India to do something positive about her. I’m pleading with well-meaning Nigerians to assist in this struggle for soul-saving”, Mr Ilodi pleaded.

Meanwhile, the APC leadership in the state has been denying assaulting the woman, calling the story as fake and overblown out of proportion.

In a statement released by the party, it noted that the woman who was still a learner was seen obstructing traffic and in a bid to help her out, she flared at the security agents and almost had a confrontation with the APC guber candidate.

It further noted that the opposition was trying to play to the gallery by hijacking the story and changing the narrative.

“At no time did His Excellency, Chief Engr. Uchenna Nnaji, governorship candidate of the APC ordered for the beating or assaulting of the woman. She could as well had an altercation with other motorists who destroyed her car and pushed her into a ditch. Our great party is trying to reach out to her family and our thoughts are with her,” part of the statement reads.
