Enugu 2023: You can’t operate in isolation – Labour Party national office cautions Enugu branch

The National Headquarters of Labour Party has issued a stern warning to Enugu State chapter of the party, saying they can’t operate without receiving directives from the National Headquarters of the party.

In a statement issued by its National Secretary, Alh. Umar Farouk Ibrahim yesterday in Abuja, after the meeting of Labour Party Chairmen across the 36 states, Farouk said that the crisis rocking Enugu State chapter of their party should be cautiously handled in order not to affect their cause at the National level.

Responding specifically to the publication on Daily Post where some factional leaders of the party in Enugu had declared the sacked guber candidate Chijioke Edeoga as still the authentic candidate, the National Secretary said that such shouldn’t have happened without a directive from the national headquarters.

“We should be very careful with our utterances in order not to face the full wrath of the law. The Federal Court had given a judgment and it should stand till further notice. You can’t take any decision regarding that without recourse to the party at the national level. You don’t have to operate in isolation.

As it stands, please, we have no guber candidate in Enugu State till further notice. Anyone parading himself or claiming to speak on behalf of the party does so at his own peril”, the National Secretary added.

Recall that Justice Evelyn Maha of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had on November 9, 2022, gave a judgment that dismissed Chijioke Edeoga as the guber candidate of Enugu State Labour Party in the forthcoming 2023 gubernatorial election.
